Blissful Backbends- Strength & Flexibility Workshop with Phil Douglas

Back bending postures can be the least blissful postures in the first years of practice for many practitioners… but with committed, intelligent practice they can become THE most blissful. This potential for change highlights the lack of intrinsic nature to the postures & the minds of the yoginis themselves.

Mumbo Jumbo aside, this workshop will cover techniques to open the front body, & emphasise how to strengthen the backside of the body to access deeper back bending postures. Direct experience of the luminosity & empty nature of mind also included.

In the journey for increased mobility, it is easy to mistake continual lengthening of tissues, where in fact strength may be required in the opposing aspect. Training strength in the deep ranges will not only expedite the development of flexibility but will also make it safer. As flexibility without strength is… instability. We don’t want to train instability!

This workshop will focus on opening the frontside of the body & developing back side body strength. Specifically, back side strength in the short working ranges of spinal and hip extension. Combined- these techniques will allow deeper, more blissful backbends to accessed with greater safety and less warm up….

Suitable for all levels. This workshop will help provide the tools to safely begin your backbending journey or deepen it to the next level in a safe and progressive way.
